The Zombie Flanders

The Zombie Flanders is a rock band that plays classic songs of the 60's through the 80's as well as melodic to progressive original music. Our members come from varied backgrounds, and collectively, we have a great deal of experience playing live shows.

Dave and Dan started the band a few years ago. Dave plays keyboards and sings many of the leads. Dan is the foundation of the band on drums. Terry is our long-time collaborator on bass and backing vocals, and Mark, the most recent addition, plays guitar and sings as well.

About Us-main

Dave

Lead Vocals/Keys

I was born and raised, initially in New York into a very musical family. I used to watch and listen to my father play the Hammond organ sitting in our living room, and at about 4 years old, I started playing. At first, I emulated my father, playing songs I had heard him play ("Spanish eyes" was the first.) Many years of lessons and school performances followed.

My parents got divorced when I was 11 (could I be any more stereotypical for an artist?) My dad, my brother and I started moving around the country. I loved having the experience of visiting and living among many different cultures. We are truly a diverse country. I was exposed to a lot of different musical styles during that time. I got the 50's Rock-n-Roll bug from my dad. Step-mom number one introduced us to John Denver, and I became a big fan (Yes, I like the mellower stuff too.) High school brought about my life-long (at least to this point) love affair with classic rock (especially the Beatles). Then college. That's where my musical life took off. In addition to my regular studies, I studied music, classical and jazz. I eventually attended the internationally renowned Grove school of music (in California) where I studied Jazz keyboard and music theory. Initially, I went just to improve my keyboard playing for rock, but I started to really appreciate jazz (some of it anyway.)

Life's twists and turns eventually sent me back to New York. I played in various bands, mostly cover. Eventually, I met up with Dan Rovere. We became fast friends as we shared many personal views and musical tastes. We developed the  concept that would shape the future of our band which, in a nutshell, is music with no boundaries. Genres are fine, but not if an arbitrary label limits creativity. Our idea was to have a band with a distinctive style, but a wide range of influences that would "color" the music.

I hope to be able to share the music I (WE) create with as many people as possible. Of course I want to make a living, but I really want to give something back as well. I hope that our creations can give people even a fraction of the emotional fulfillment and sustenance, joy, and cathartic transformation that music has given my life.

Dan

Drums/Percussion/backing vocals

Quite the late-bloomer, I did not begin playing the drums until the ripe old age of 21. I made up for lost time by practicing as many as 5 hours a day to the music I loved. If it had Tony Williams, Trilok Gurtu, Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford, or Mike Clark (among many others) on it, it was in my cd player and I was at least trying to jam to it. My goal now is to create something that is musically and conceptually creative and challenging, yet accessible to any listener. Rock, Pop, Jazz, Funk, Latin--it’s all good. Let’s play…..
