Jo Willie Tsonga at the 2009 US Open. This is his first round match and the closest I've ever been to a top player during a match (courtside baby!!)

Off hoursMelanie serving. This close, you really get to appreciate the intensity of matches at the very top level. Center court, Arthur Ashe stadium. I had pretty good seats here. It's the first time I watched a match from the end and not the side. It's a very different perspective. Of course, after watching so much great tennis, I have to give it a try myself. So, how did I match up to the pros I just got done watching? Well,...at least it was a beautiful day. This is me and Ringo's drum. Actually that's a gold Ludwig drum that was presented by the Ludwigs to Ringo in the 60's and used by him with the Beatles. In the Met's music section. They always have a selection of very old pianos. This one, I believe was from the 1700's. I was going to really try to play one of the old pianos or organs, but having to tell my friends that I was tackled to the ground by a 90 year old security guard would have been pretty embarrassing. This organ has 4 foldable desks on top to accommodate singers (and their sheet music, I suppose.) One person would stand in the back and pull straps to pump air to create sound. Out to dinner with friends. I love bringing friends together. That's Dan on the left, me, my friend Sue from CA (I met her when I worked in the movie industry,) Catherine is second to right, and then Terry. That's Terry in the front. Dan's on the left, and that's me, Dave on the right. We're at the blue note to see Michel Camilo, one of our favorite musicians. You probably can't tell, but this is an Elton John concert. This was actually a small "private" concert at the Beacon Theater. It was only a couple of thousand people, and it was just Elton and his percussionist Ray Cooper. It was a great way to see him. Much different from the full band. |
